The Ultimate Scouting Adventure

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America's premier high adventure base. Located in the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains in northeastern New Mexico, Philmont covers 140,177 acres of rugged mountain wilderness.

Our crew will trek through stunning backcountry, summit Baldy Mountain, experience unique program activities at staffed camps, and build memories that will last a lifetime. This is Scouting at its finest.

Trek 1: Northern Route — June 15–26

Day 1

Arrival at Base Camp

Arrive at Philmont Scout Ranch. Gear shakedown, orientation, and preparation for the trail.

Day 2

Hit the Trail

Begin our trek into the backcountry. First night at Zastrow camp.

Days 3–4

Northern Route

Trek through Cimarroncito and head toward the high country. Program activities along the way.

Day 5

Baldy Mountain

Summit Baldy Mountain (12,441 ft) — the highest point in Philmont. Incredible 360° views.

Days 6–8

Staffed Camps

Visit historic staffed camps. Activities include black powder rifle, tomahawk throwing, gold panning, and more.

Day 9

Tooth of Time

Trek to the iconic Tooth of Time. Final night on the trail.

Day 10

Return to Base Camp

Complete the trek. Celebration, showers, and departure.

Trek 2: Southern Route — July 13–24

Day 1

Arrival at Base Camp

Arrive at Philmont Scout Ranch. Gear shakedown, orientation, and preparation for the trail.

Day 2

Trail Start — South Country

Begin the southern route. First camp at Lovers Leap.

Day 3

Apache Springs

Trek to Apache Springs. Evening program on mountain man heritage.

Days 4–5

Clear Creek & Fish Camp

Explore the southern backcountry. Trout fishing and wilderness skills programs.

Day 6

Mount Phillips

Summit Mount Phillips (11,742 ft) for spectacular views of the Valle Vidal.

Days 7–8

Western Camps

Visit Cimarroncito and Miranda. Rock climbing, burro racing, and western lore.

Day 9

Tooth of Time Ridge

Approach the iconic Tooth of Time via the ridge trail. Final night under the stars.

Day 10

Return to Base Camp

Summit Tooth of Time at sunrise, then return to base camp. Celebration and departure.

Requirements & Investment

Eligibility

  • Age 14+ by June 2026
  • Completed 8th grade
  • Active in troop activities
  • Commitment to training program

Training

  • Monthly shakedown hikes (Jan–May)
  • Physical conditioning plan
  • Gear trials and preparation
  • Navigation and wilderness skills

Investment

  • $2,500–3,000 per participant
  • Payment plans available
